Any polymer with an epoxy based silicone structure can be referred to as an silicone epoxy resin.
Epoxy resin is an excellent thermosetting synthetic resin material, which has excellent adhesion, high mechanical strength, good chemical stability, low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent electrical insulation, good heat resistance, solvent resistance, easy molding and processing, low cost and other characteristics. It is used as adhesive, coating, reinforced plastic, electrical insulation material, casting material, electronic packaging material, foam plastic, composite matrix resin, etc Plastics, electronics, aerospace, coatings, adhesives, and many other fields have been widely used.
However, in recent years, its application has expanded to fields such as structural adhesive materials, semiconductor packaging materials, fiber reinforced materials, laminates, copper flutes, integrated circuits, etc., which has put forward higher requirements for the performance of epoxy resin materials.
Therefore, a large amount of modification research has been conducted on epoxy resin. The epoxy modified silicone resin has the advantages of both silicone and epoxy resins, with good bonding performance, medium resistance, water resistance, and atmospheric aging resistance. It can not only reduce the internal stress of the epoxy resin, but also increase its toughness, high temperature resistance, and water boiling resistance. And it can be cured with amine curing agents, reducing the curing temperature. Some epoxy modified silicone resins can even cure at room temperature. Simultaneously modifying epoxy resin with silicone resin can improve its weak points such as low fracture strength and poor wear resistance.
At present, the main ways to modify epoxy resin with organic silicon include active end group reaction, generation of block copolymers using silica coupling agents, substitution of silica burned side groups, and pre preparation of polysiloxane particles. The methods used mainly include co mixing and co polymerization.
